St. Bernard Parish Hospital, in its commitment to excellence in providing quality health care to the citizens of St. Bernard Parish, is proud and honored to introduce Mace Scott, M.D., as your Director of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Scott, formerly of Touro Hospital in New Orleans, is board certified in Emergency Medicine and brings with him over 10 years’ experience supervising ER operations. He also serves as a member on the hospital’s Medical Executive Committee.
Under his direction, the hospital’s 10 bed Emergency Room features state of the art amenities in emergent care and a staff consisting of well-trained emergency personnel certified in a variety of fields such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, CPI Crisis Intervention and Trauma Core Support, and who have dedicated their lives to yours. Assisting Dr. Scott is Cindy Maag, Emergency Room Director, who couldn’t be happier than to be home again in the parish, as she worked 26 years at DelaRonde Hospital pre-Katrina.
The SBPH Emergency Room has only been in operation since August 2012 and has already seen over 6,000 patients to date, having admitted over 400 patients to the hospital floors with 40 of those admitted to the ICU. The ER averages an unbelievable 1,500 patients per month or 60 patients per day. If there was ever a question to the need of this facility we believe the community itself has replied.
It is important to understand that all patients entering the ER by way of walk-ins or ambulance are processed through a triage nurse which assesses their emergency care needs. Patients are then seen by the ER physician based on emergency severity. As is typical of any hospital, non-critical injuries will ultimately have longer wait times. Although the hospital currently provides only one ER physician per shift, SBPH anticipates increasing ER physicians as the hospital becomes more established.
Please join us in thanking Dr. Scott and his staff for providing a vital service to the community of St. Bernard and its surrounding areas.
